Inspired by her Children
As a mother of children with beautiful curls, I was inspired by their natural curls and started wondering why I had suppressed my own curls for so long. This was the turning point when I decided to help others discover and embrace their own unique curl pattern.
More about us
My journey how to take care of my hair started when I was just eleven years old, though the path I took led me in a different direction for many years. Back then, it was common to relax kinky hair—a chemical treatment that straightens your natural texture. Like many women with Black hair, I relaxed my hair year after year (for thirthy years) because it was simply the norm. I used to joke, “Maybe I’ll stop when I turn 40,” but deep down, I never seriously considered growing out my natural curls.
Everything changed, however, when I became a mother to a beautiful daughter with mixed hair—full of stunning curls. Suddenly, I faced a new challenge: how to properly care for her curls. I wanted to keep them healthy and vibrant, so I began searching for answers. We visited a curl specialist together, and I became fascinated by how her hair could be treated and styled to enhance her natural beauty. That’s when something inside me began to shift.
Slowly, I became curious about my own hair. The curls I had hidden for so many years under chemical treatments were calling for attention. Shortly after, I became pregnant with my second child, and once I knew, I made a life-changing decision: I stopped relaxing my hair. In our culture, it's believed that chemically treating your hair during pregnancy isn't good for you or the baby. That was my sign to stop for good and embrace my natural hair journey.
The road wasn’t easy. After years of relaxing my hair, I didn’t know how to manage my natural texture. There were moments when I thought, “Maybe I should go back to relaxing; it was so much easier.” But deep down, I knew I was on the right path. Thankfully, my hair started to grow quickly, and with every inch, my curiosity about my natural curls grew. I wanted to learn everything I could: how to care for curls, what products to use, and which ingredients were best for curly hair.
I enrolled in curl care courses, read everything I could about natural hair, and discovered the power of natural ingredients. As I became more confident in taking care of my own hair and helping others with theirs, I realized this was about more than just haircare—it was about embracing my identity and feeling proud of my natural self.
Eventually, my passion grew into something bigger. I opened my own curl salon, a space where I could advise and inspire women or children to embrace their natural curls. My mission was clear: I wanted to show others that their curls are beautiful just as they are. This eventually led me to develop my own line of curl products, built on my vision of what curly hair truly needs.
My children were the inspiration behind my entire journey. Through their eyes, I learned to appreciate the beauty of natural hair. Now, through my work, I hope to inspire others to wear their natural curls with pride because our curls are a gift, a unique part of who we are.
